Hello fellow homies!!
I was wondering what are a couple of songs you relate and why(please include name of band)? I have three, More Than Useless by Relient K, I always used to feel like I was no use to anyone, and even though about suicide, but then God came and showed me that's not a way out and that He wants to use me. Getting into You, again by Relient K, when I became a Christian lots of my friends really gave me a bad time and kept asking what I got myself into and that's what this song talks about one of the lyrics is "I love you and that's what you are getting youself into." And the final one is Empty Me, by Jeremy Camp, thats what I want God to do with me empty me of all my desires so that I can do his will. Sorry if you haven't heard of any of these songs, I hope some people will reply, this may end up bringing some interesting conversations.

I have so many songs that I love and for various reasons. I love Brooks and Dunn's song I BELIEVE. THis is a country/western song. Also in the country/western category I love Dollie Parton & Brad Paisley singing WHEN I GET WHERE I'M GOING. This talks of heaven. Maybe some would not think of these songs being religious and maybe they're not, but they do get a person thinking. A couple hymns I love are HIS EYE IS ON THE SPARROW and HOW GREAT THOU ART. We know that God is great and does watch us constantly. I sing in the church choir, at a nursing home and I'm also the song leader of the church. I have sung nearly all my life. My mom was a great pianist and on Sunday afternoons after church and lunch we would gather around the piano, (sometimes my sister and a brother, and sometimes just mom and I) and sing hymns for hours. We would sometimes start at the beginning of the hymnal and go through the whole book. Sorry, but I haven't heard of any of the songs/groups you mentioned. They probably are more popular with the younger generation....I'm of the more "aged" generation. I may not have responded like you had intended and if not, I'm sorry. I dearly love music and will be interested in how others respond to this.

I don't listen to much country, but I have heard of How Great is Thou Art, and I REALLY like that song, all listen to is Christian, any kind, old or Contempary(sp), I love is all, I also really love music, infact I plan on being a youth minister or worship minister, whatever God intends to do with my life. Some of the other song I REALLY like that you might have heard of is: They will know we are christians by out Love(I sing that song everyday.), Nothing but the Blood, It is Well, By Jordan's stormy banks I stand, ect. I have a lot more but it would be impossible to name them all, tell me if you have heard of any of the ones I just named, please. God Bless!!

Hi,

Yes, I have heard some of the songs you listed. In fact, I have sung them either as solo's or in church. IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL and NOTHING BUT THE BLOOD OF JESUS. Have you heard I'M STANDING ON THE SOLID ROCK, MANSION OVER THE HILLTOP, IT IS NO SECRET, I'LL FLY AWAY, THE UNCLOUDED DAY? Those are just a few we sang at choir practice tonight. We're going to sing THE UNCLOUDED DAY in church Sunday.

Hope others will respond to your posting. Good-night and God BLess You. cross.jpg smile.gif

Yes, I have heard most of the songs you have listed, I haven't heard of the Unclouded Day, but I LOVE I'll Fly away!! Have you heard the song AS THE DEER? We singing that on Sunday, its another one of my favorites. Have you heard of HEART OF WORSHIP?? If you have I thought you would like to know the guy who wrote it was part of a church in England and they had forgot what God and praise was all about, so they actually took all worship songs out of their service and would sometimes just sit there in silence and totally focusing on God the way it should, and they finally got the idea and brought worship back into the service, and then he wrote that song. I just thought you would like to know that. Oh I was wondering if you had heard of these 2 songs TURN YOUR EYES UPON JESUS, and ENOUGH?? I also hope more people will respond, I'm really enjoying these conversations, I LOVE talking about music, God BLESS!!

Hi 3rd_Rox, flowers.gif

Yes I have heard TURN YOUR EYES UPON JESUS, AND HEART OF WORSHIP. Haven't heard the other two. It has only been in the past year that I heard of HEART OF WORSHIP. A guest at our church played/sang it when he was there one Sunday. It's a beautiful song. Thanks for telling me the history. A few other favorite hymns of mine are IN MY HEART THERE RINGS A MELODY, HEAVEN CAME DOWN AND GLORY FILLED MY SOUL,YOU MAY HAVE THE JOY-BELLS, and also WHY ME LORD. Know any of these? I too love music and would rather sing than eat (and I love to eat). Our church on any month that has 5 Sundays has a special gospel music group come and sing during the church service instead of preaching. This is so uplifting and gratifying to the soul. Of course we have favorite groups but each one is different in the way they sing and present their music so whichever one is there it's great. Following the music we have a pitch-in meal with lots of fellowship. Usually after that my friend the pianist and I sing and play for the pure enjoyment of doing so. I thank God for my talent of singing and enjoying music. Gotta go for now. God Bless. cross.jpg smile.gif
3rd_ROX
Hello,
I haven't heard of YOU MAY HAVE JOY-BELLS, but the rest I have heard of. That's really cool about the gospel band coming and singing, we do that once a year but its only with two bands but they are really good, CHOOSEN FEW is one of them and the SINGNATURE QUARETET(sp) is the other one. But we have this really special service every Wednesday night called 2:42 and we have a small sermon then after that all we do is sing and we pick a different type of music each week to keep upbeat and fun you never know when we will have gospel or when we will have alternative, but all of it is for God. Our youth miniter and Pastor take turns giving the sermon which is also really cool and then we have fellowship afterward. I think it is so cool you were blessed with the talent of singing, unfortunatly I was not, I have always loved singing but have never been good at it, but God did bless me with the talent to play the violin, so I technically sing, but do it with all my heart through an instrement(sp). God not only gave us music for our enjoyment, but gave people like you a talent so He can enjoy it too. smile.gif Well I better let you go. God Bless.

Hi, It's interesting that you play the violin. When I was in the 4th grade of school many many years ago they had a program trying to get young people interested in learning to play instruments. If someone owned one, could borrow, or just interested could play what ever the school had that had been donated by a music store. My aunt owned 2 violins and so I tried learning. The music teacher gave us lessons on certain days for 1/2 hour. There were 2 of us trying the violin, so she had us both to come at the same time. We were given certain things to practice at home and I did it. Sadly the other girl didn't and dropped out after a few weeks. Well, I got to do the whole hour since the teacher had that time allowed. I loved playing and during the summer she even gave me private lessons. I played for 3 school years until the teacher left and went to a different school. I tried practicing on my own but lived in the country on a farm and had chores and during the summer we had lots of work to do so sadly I finally just quit playing. I really regret that decision but we didn't have the money to hire a private tutor and I just couldn't get any better without further lessons. How long have you played? Your Wed night services sound very interesting. Do you go to a large church? We are a small country church with an average attendance of about 35-40. I got the list of songs for tomorrow from the pianist and in addition to the choir song I told you, the congregation is singing HIS EYE IS ON THE SPARROW, AT CALVARY, IN THE GARDEN, and JUST AS I AM. Love these songs. Gotta go. God Bless. cross.jpg smile.gif

I told my parents when I was three that I wanted to play, they just thought I had got it from somewhere and didn't get me one so when I kept on asking about playing the violin through the whole year, on my 4th birthday they gave me one and I was able to get tutoring lessons from someone every week that lived 30mins away. Until I was 9 I tutored under her and was becoming very good, but sadly enough we had to move and instead of living just 30mins away she then lived 2 hours away, and with gas prices that was just way to far so I had to stop seeing her. But we then found someone else who lived only 10 minutes away and I then tutored under her for a little while and she taught me more fiddle than violin, but I still really enjoyed it, but then she moved to a whole new state and now I have no one to teach me any more, I try very hard to keep up and get self learning books and anything else that can help me but it is really hard. I know someone who plays the violin but she won't give lessons, and my youth minister's wife plays and is REALLY good but she won't tutor either, but every now and then she will help me tune my violin and teach me a couple of new things. My church has more than 40 people but way less than 150, people just come and they go as they please, we are a very welcoming church. Tomorrow we are singing ON THAT OLD RUGGED CROSS, which I think will be really good. Well I have to go. God Bless.

It's hard to keep up on the violin when you don't have a teacher to help. I hope you can get someone to give you more instruction. Music is so soothing to the soul. People can be blessed by hearing the word preached, but too music is such a way to be blessed, plus God is given the glory through the singing/instruments. Like it says in Psalms 150: Praise the Lord! Praise God in His sanctuary; Praise Him in His mighty firmament! Praise Him for His mighty acts; Praise Him according to His excellent greatness! Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet; Praise Him with the lute and harp! Praise Him with the timbrel and dance; Praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes! Praise Him with loud cymbals; Praise Him with clashing cymbals! Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord! Another favorite song is AMAZING GRACE.

Until next time...God Bless.

I love that verse, I have it highlighted in my bible. I love the song AMAZING GRACE, I know how to play that on my violin!! There is a really cool song called GRACE LIKE RAIN and its more contemporary(sp) but very good I'll give you the lyrics and if you like it, its by TODD AGNEW, I suggest you check his music out:

GRACE LIKE RAIN

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now I'm found
Was blind but now I see so clearly

Hallelujah, grace like rain falls down on me
Hallelujah, all my stains are washed away, washed away

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed

Hallelujah, grace like rain falls down on me
Hallelujah, all my stains are washed away, washed away

When we've been there ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun
We've no less days to sing Your praise
Than when we first begun

Hallelujah, grace like rain falls down on me
Hallelujah, all my stains are washed away, washed away

Hallelujah, grace like rain falls down on me
Hallelujah, all my stains are washed away, washed away"

This is one of my all time favorites!! Hope you liked it! ASAP(always say a prayer)!! God Bless

Hi,
Mind if I join you??? Some of my favorite songs are Cleanse Me; Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee; It Is Well With My Soul (Kenn used to sing this one and I loved to hear him sing); How Great Thou Art, Be Still My Soul; Praise to the Lord and many others. Kenn also sang The Way That He Loves and it was so beautiful. I love Wonderful, Merciful Savior. The words are great and it has a beautiful melody.

Wonderful, Merciful Savior
Precious Redeemer and Friend
Who would have thought that
a Lamb could rescue
the souls of men - Oh you
rescue the souls of men.

chorus: You are the One that we praise
You are the One we adore
You give the healing and grace
our hearts always hunger for,
Oh our hearts always hunger for.

Counselor, Comforter, Keeper
Spirit we long to embrace
You offer hope when our hearts
have hopelessly lost the way
Oh we hopelessly lost the way.
(chorus)

Almighty, infinite Father
faithfully loving Your own
Here in our weakness You find us
falling before Your throne
We're falling before Your throne.
(chorus)

Our church has about 150 in Sunday School. Most of the music is traditional. But I also attend a Bible study in a different church where the music we sing at the study is mostly praise songs. I like both. I love the old hymns the best but also some of the newer praise songs.
I do not play an instrument though I have always wished I could play the piano. Kenn plays piano and guitar by ear. He is very good but doesn't read music much at all - just enough to pick out a tune. He is also a very good singer.
When we were teens my (2) sisters and I used to sing together for speicals for church. I'm sure we could never have 'taken it on the road' laugh.gif but we were using what little talent God gave us to glorify Him.

Of course you can join us GrandmaDee. I know nearly all the hymns you mentioned and have sung them as solo's also. I don't know the one you put the lyrics to though.

3rd_Rox. Thanks for posting the lyrics of the song. I see it has AMAZING GRACE intertwined with other lyrics. As you can tell, I don't know too many of the more contemporary songs. We mostly do hymns at our church although we do some of the others too.

A few others I like are: THIS IS MY FATHER'S WORLD, THE LORD'S PRAYER,TO GOD BE THE GLORY, and THE HAVEN OF REST.

Until next time. God BLess.

SWEET SONG!! GD I like it a lot, I like all kinds of music I can listen to the oldies to hardcore metal as long as It's Christain. I just got back from the best concert of my life(which by the way is pretty good sense I have been to a whole lot) I don't know if you have heard of Jars of Clay, but I went to see them and they were the best thing since sliced bread!! They did everything!! Here are just a few I'LL FLY AWAY, NOTHING BUT THE BLOOD, IT IS WELL, THE WILL KNOW WE ARE CHRISTAINS BY OUR LOVE, and thats just a few, I'm so psyced on how good it was!! All the songs you mentioned GD and Me2 I knew so even though I'm not that old I still love good-ole classics, nothing better than that. Well I better hit the bed to catch a couple of z's until next time. Thanks for joining us GD!!

So glad you had such a good time at the concert 3rd_Rox. I know the name Jars of Clay but haven't heard any of their music. I do know the songs you mentioned though. Do you like to hear the Oak Ridge Boys sing? They have done all sorts of music but also have done gospel.

Do either of you like the song THE LONG BLACK TRAIN? I think it's either by Josh Grogan or Josh Turner. May be way off base with the singer. I like it. What about songs by the late Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash?

Going to go back to browsing. Not a whole lot of talking tonight. Take care and God Bless.

Hello,
Thanks I did have a wonderful time!!! I haven't heard of the Oak Ridge Boys, but I do enjoy Blind Boys from Alabama. I think I know the song your talking about, I don't listen much to june or Johnny, they just have never appealed to me. Maybe its because I'm from a younger generation, but I just don't. Well I don't really have anything else. Hope all is well!! God bless.

Hi again, I know you are a much younger generation than I but that's fine. That way we have a variety of groups and music and it can be enlightening to all of us. I haven't heard of the BLIND BOYS. Do you have any favorite women singers? Do you know Sandi Patti's music? Talk with you again later. God Bless
3rd_ROX
Hello,
Yes I have heard of Sandi Patti, she rox!! I also like Crystal Lewis (people get ready Jesus is coming), Zoe Girl, Superchic(k), Barlow Girl, Point of Grace, Joy Williams, Sara Groves, Kathy Troccoli, and many more but that's all I can think of at the moment. Well that's about it from this end, hope all is well. God Bless!

Good afternoon. I must admit I don't recognize any of the female singers you have listed. I was sitting here thinking about singers and gospel music and one person came to mind that I really loved hearing sing gospel. A lot of people may not agree about him and his singing and that is okay...everyone to their own opinion. But I just loved hearing Elvis Presley sing....not just gospel ..but all. I have several of his records and tapes. He has sung with some of the old gospel groups that were really well known. Anyone have an opinion on his music? I have seen him in concert here at the IU Auditorium twice many years ago. It was really great.

Well that's all I'm going to talk about at the moment. Have a great day. God Bless
3rd_ROX
My whole family REALLY loves Elvis, infact my brother performed AIN'T NOTHING BUT A HOUND DOG, for the talent show, and my Great Great Grandma saw him in concert too. So yes I do love Elvis I can't say I'm as big a fun as my brother is(he is 10 by the way), but I do still like him. And I enjoy that he sang gospel.
That's it from this end, hope all is well.

Another group I love hearing sing, although I think several are now deceased, is the Gaithers. Some are still living but there was a big family of them. Gloria is one. I have several tapes of their music. They would be in the older generation from you, but have been very popular on tv and radio & etc.

Our church choir will be doing an Easter program entitled AT THE CROSS. We did it last year but have several new people this year and so are going to repeat it. I must find my book to take next Wed night. It's a real pretty concert and only last about 15-20 minutes. We do a concert (for better words) at Christmas too. Does your church do specials like that on Easter and Christmas?

Take care and will be talking with you all later. God Bless
GrandmaDee
We went to see the Oak Ridge Boys a couple years ago at Branson, Missouri. It was exciting. They were good. Kenn loves those groups that harmonize.
We also went once to hear barbershop quartets (not Christian). What fun!!!
I have heard of some of the singers you mentioned 3rd Rox. Paul and Laurie have some of the CDs and I listen to some of the more contemporary stuff. I like Point of Grace.
Of course we both liked the Gaithers too.
I like many kinds of music, some in moderation. I do not really like hard rock or heavy metal and not much of the really twangy music though.
I was never really a fan of Elvis but Kenn was and now I think he had a really good voice. Never really liked Johnny or June Cash that much either. My Dad did though so we heard them.
I usually like a song but have no idea who is singing it. I have never focused on the artist but more on the song. Paul can't understand why I do not know who sang many of the songs when I was younger. Of course some you could not miss, like the Beatles, Elvis and other highly visual ones.
3rd_ROX
I have never heard of the Gaithers, but as for older artists I love Richard Mullens(AWSOME GOD), Ray Boltz(THANK YOU FOR GIVING TO THE LORD), and Carmen(RIOT). I also like Bob Carlise(sp)(BUTTERFLY KISSES), I have seen both Carmen and Bob Carlise(sp) before, and I really enjoyed them. I really like to focus on the bands because I get a better idea of what the bands beliefs are and what their personality is like, then I get a better idea on what they are trying to say.Plus its cool to be like a living breathing MP3 player and be able to tell everyone who is singing and what the song is. Our church used to do something called THE BATTLE, and our former youth minister wrote it. It has to do with certain peoples lives and how they live throughout it and shows who is going to Heaven or Hell depending on how the people live, its very intense so no little kids are allowed and it really makes you think. But we also have dinner theatres and we have two speech and play diretors that have won numerous awards and plan out each of the plays and they always turn out to be very well organized and performed.

God is Good.

Hey you all, I'm poppin in here.

I wonder if any of you heard of Rachel Rachel? Christian all female group. Don't know if they are still around but I loved them. I have their cd's. They are kinda on the rock side. Also love Carmen, White Heart, Degarmo & Key, & Petra. I got to see White Heart in 1994 in Whitewater, Wi. & got to meet all of them & got their autographs. It was so neat. I will never forget it!! My favorite song by them is Desert Rose.
For secular music I love the group Heart, my all time favorite. Kansas is also one of my favorites.also got to see them in concert years ago.

There are so many other groups I like But it would take too long to list them all.
