I like listening to country (not classic), contemporary christian music --really contemporary (loud), movie soundtracks (my favorite is Narnia's soundtrack), and a miscellaneous assortment of other stuff. I can't stand rap, hip-hop, or songs where the singers are screaming more than singing....
DaveN
I enjoy the old hymns of the faith. I like classical music too.
GrandmaDee
I also love the old hymns. I know many by heart. Our church sings mostly hymns and I'm glad of that. It's a shame that so many churches have gotten away from the hymns. They are so uplifting and so beautiful and many younger people do not know them at all.
DaveN
I agree 100%.

I agree, too.

I love the old hymns....such wisdom and meaningful expressions of what our faith is about. We sing those old hymns at our church.

I usually listen to Leeland or Casting Crowns to relax. Sometimes I'll listen to Brian Housten or Micheal W. Smith as well. All of them are excellent Christian musicians.

If I'm feeling in a childish mood, I may even listen to some Disney songs tongue.gif

I'm not familiar with any of them but then I've been called an old fogey before and I think that I resemble that remark.

I like all the old traditional Christian hymns and Country Gospel groups like the Chuck Wagon Gang, the Blackwood Brothers, the Cathedral Quartet, and the Sunshine Boys Quartet. My favorite of all though is the old Appalachian hill folk songs. My grandmother was hill folk from North Carolina. She used to sit in a rocking chair on the porch of an evening and us kids would circle round her at her feet. She would sing many of the old gospel songs all without music. She did have a true nightingale voice. The nightingales would even sing along with her. I sometimes sit outside of an evening and can still hear singing along with them.

Kris
I have no idea who any of the groups you mentioned are either.. whistling.gif

Pastor Roger, I suppose you would say I'm an old fogey too. I know and love Josh Turner's song, "The Long Black Train." I too love the old Christian hymns and the Country Gospel groups you mentioned plus others. I love Bluegrass Gospel also. As I grew up we spent many a Sunday afternoon around the piano with my Mom playing and some of us kids singing or playing an instrument. She was a great Christian woman and pianist. Of 5 children all of us but 1 either sang, played an instrument or both. Music is a great love of my life and I'm so thankful God gave me a talent of music. smile.gif Mom is now in Heaven playing the big pipe organ for the angels to sing. I saw a vision of this after she died. She was a great pianist but never had the privilege to play a pipe organ which was a dream of hers. Well, God has taken care of that. cross.jpg emot-angel.gif

Thank you. I need someone to fill that gap once in awhile. I do work a lot with the younger ones in the neighborhood but I just am not familiar with any of their music.

Bluegrass Gospel has it's roots in the Appalachian hillfolk music. They are very much alike. The hill folk considered themselves very fortunate to have musical instruments and when they did they were usually brought with them from the old country and would be quite old, handed down from generation to generation. I was able to visit some relatives in a valley in North Carolina and they are still living much the same way there as they did 50 years ago. The singing is always beautiful and from the heart.

Kris
Pastor Roger you will be pleased to know my husband has heard of the groups you mentioned.. Of course hes much older then myself so I dont know if that counts.. ooh bluegrass I dont enjoy it. Heard to much of it growing up. We actually owned a banjo.. rolleyes.gif
Pastor Roger
Banjos are alright but I prefer to listen to a Fiddle, Mandolin and especially like the Autoharp and Harmonica. My gradfather played the Autoharp and the Harmonica. The Autoharp he had was homemade from an old piano that he found at a local dump. When I was in North Carolina there was a group that played spoons, glass bottles and a homemade bass like one they show on HeeHaw. I thought that was neat to get such sounds from everyday items like they had.

Debp
Kris, I don't know any of those singers either. And Pastor Roger, I've only heard of the Blackwood Brothers. Is there a group called Greater Vision? I think that's their name....I have their CD upstairs and it's really good. I also have Amy Lambert (beautiful voice), Steve Brock, and an assortment of hymn CDs. A couple of the hymn CDs are arranged a little bit more contemporary, but still very nice.

Has anyone heard any of the music on the "Worship" station? Worship.net I think. Since I hooked up my tv converter box, I've been getting that station. They play all scenery and each scenic video is accompanied by beautiful music. Some are instrumentals but most are contemporary singers, but the more melodious kind.

Oh, a couple of times I've heard this Mexican guy perform at Olvera Street. He plays water filled hanging bottles....he does really complicated songs on them!! Amazing!!
