Gee you lot are old!! the first CD I owned (yes, I was in CD era) was New Kids on the Block, I was 8 or 9. I liked the Bangles too.
I now listen to stuff from the 60's and 70's...going backwards I think..I know more lyrics from the 60's than todays music!
During my teenage years (not that long ago) I liked the Backstreet Boys, Girlfriend (an Aussie band), DC talk, and Boyzone.

I listen to... just about everything (except rap.) im even embarissed to say that im starting to like a FEW country songs...
Mostly I listen to SKA, punk, rock, heavy metal, industrial, techno, emo, jazz, swing, bosa nova, and a little classical. I like just about anything except pop, hip-hop, and rap.
as for bands, there are too many to list, so i wont even try.

I'm starting to listen to country, too. But I prefer the Alternative stuff. I wonder if there are songs just about trucking and driving down lonesome highways. I used to love listening to Convoy.

A song I listened to plenty of times as a kid was . . .
The
Popcorn SongLarge Selection of Popcorn SongsIt really helped define a nation, its dreams and aspirations. The precursor to many genres - like, in my opinion, Industrial and Techno - the Popcorn Song sparked an enormous amount of excitement in its time.

I was crazy....so all my classmates informed me.
I collected their trading cards and biography books, tons of stuff...then I grew out of them and tossed it all. Wish I still had all that, would probably be worth a little something!

Men without Hats!!
We can dance if we want to, we can leave your friends behind
'Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance
Well they're no friends of mine
Say, we can go where we want to, a place that they will never find
And we can act like we come from out of this world
Leave the real one far behind
And we can dance
We can go when we want to, the night is young and so am I
And we can dress real neat from our hats to our feet
And surprise them with the victory cry
Say, we can act if we want to, if we don't nobody will
And you can act real rude or totally removed
And I can act like an imbecile
Say we can dance, we can dance
Everything's out of control
We can dance, we can dance
They're doing it from pole to pole
We can dance, we can dance
Everybody look at your hands
We can dance, we can dance
Everybody taken the chance
The safety dance
The safety dance
The safety dance
We can dance if we want to, we've got all your life and mine
As long as we abuse it we are never going to lose it
And everything will work out right
Say, we can dance if we want to, we can leave your friends behind
'Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance
well they're no friend of mine
