Due to the tremendous and extensive wildfires we had recently, there was no vegetation on the hillsides when the extremely heavy rains finally came. So now many homes and even people were swept away in mudslides. Boulders the size of cars or bigger also came down the hills.

A baby was found alive in four feet of mud, a 14 year old girl was dug out from her mud-encased home, etc. Many people are still missing...

The rain which we rarely get, only lasted about a day and a half...but no vegetation to hold back the soil.

I recall about 67 homes washed away, and well over 400 homes are damaged. Seven people are still missing.

The search and rescue dogs are being used and do a great job.
